eGroupWare

So I was assigned the task this week to evaluate a few different groupware/calendar programs for new use at the office. Our current instance is old and outdated, and it’s time for the new. I started out with a few packages from Freshmeat.net, but nothing came about there. I first looked at OpenGroupware, and wow…it sucks. The documentation is horrible (if it can be called documentation or not) and it’s just a bad interface. The final package I decided to learn about was called eGroupWare. Talk about user friendly, smooth interface, and rather nice installation. Anyways, the point of all this is that I decided to install a version at home tonight on VMware and document it for CentOS, step-by-step for others to enjoy. The docs for the project at the website are really good, but not system specific. Inevitably I’ll be wanting to install a live version somewhere along the lines, and of course it’ll be using either RHEL or CentOS. I use so much software anymore it’s just so much easier to take some time and document things so you can reference them later. Plus it helps build up my how-to section. :) Steps for installing and setting up everything from postgresql, httpd, and PHP are included. Enjoy.
