Geek Squad getting in trouble
May 5th, 2008 — maxwellThis is exactly why I would never EVER let these kinds of places touch any kind of hardware that had data on it.
I refuse to even send a hard drive back to the manufacturer without first wiping it with DBAN. Call me paranoid, but it’s entirely too easy for others to get personal information from you.

Good information on protecting your personal information. I guess folks should expect some privacy. But if you’re going to hand over your equipment with stuff on it you don’t want others to see, isn’t that sort of like letting a stranger borrow your wallet to get your business card but expecting him not to clean out your cash? Maybe a poor analogy, but the point is … only YOU can protect your identity, right?

Perfect analogy actually. Most people don’t relate a hard drive full of information to their wallets, but they really should.
