Someone stole my hard drive!

I like to buy a lot of hardware through ZipZoomFly online because they offer great service, fast shipping, and the some of the best prices online. I ordered a 200GB hard drive last week to compliment my other one in a mirror configuration for my desktop at home. They always ship via FedEx and unitl now I’ve never had a problem, because they always send things to my place of employment with a signature required. I get to work this morning and check the tracking information and it said it was delivered on Saturday. My office isn’t open on Saturdays and it was marked as “Home Delivery.” Some FedEx guy left my damn hard drive sitting at the front door of my office. I immediately go walking around the office to see if someone found my package. Absolutely no one had my package. Since there’s a lot of traffic outside the office, someone on the way buy, I’m assuming, decided to help themselves.

After this I get on the horn with FedEx and they pretty much said they couldn’t do anything but contact the driver and get back to me in a week. They stated that the vendor had shipped the package marked “Home Delivery” which doesn’t require a signature. Now I’m getting mad, because our office doesn’t even come close to resembling a house. A FedEx driver should have known better than to leave the package. Anyways, I call ZipZoomFly to report the problem and they were at least much more helpful. They in fact hadn’t shipped it the way FedEx said. The billing address was different than the shipping address, and the shipping address was marked to a company, so they said there’s no way it left their premises marked the way FedEx said. Long story short, in order for a chance to get my $100 back, ZipZoomFly launches a claim, investigates with FedEx, and waits for FedEx to cut a check back to them if they even do to begin with. This process takes 4-6 weeks to process. I’m sure it will get all worked out, but it really pisses me off how people are these days. Let’s just help ourselves to packages that shouldn’t have been left to begin with.

I at least appreciate ZipZoomFly’s approach over FedEx’s, however, they at least offered to investigate the ordeal. FedEx just pointed a finger to someone else and basically said there wasn’t anything more they could do. FedEx used to be my preferred shipper, because UPS made me irate a long time ago for leaving a laptop sit on my porch that was supposed to be signed for. But FedEx is making me angry now too. I can understand how hard it is to route as many packages as these huge shippers do, but come on, at least they can hire some drivers with a little more common sense.

Update

FedEx miraculously “found” my package, after several phone calls. After I received it, I looked at the shipping label and sure enough it had the company address marked on it, but was labeled for home delivery. Who knows, I have it that’s all I care at the moment.
