The never ending requisition forms

Lately, with all the office political BS, and the amount of hoops I’ve had to jump through just to order something, I feel like I should be in an episode of The Office. I’ve never gotten used to the transition in regards to some things in an office environment. My work background primarily involved working for a small group or people, if not an individual, plus working outside an office where I had little interaction with people. So, I go from that to where I’ve been working now for over two years and I still can’t get used to certain things. Don’t get me wrong, I really do enjoy most aspects of my job.

For instance, I’ve spent literally at least 8 hours since July dealing with paper work for purchase orders for computer memory. That is almost an entire work day dealing with paper. Amazing. I finally get all that straightened out yesterday at work, which I had to work at for, oh, I’d say close to 2 hours of the day. I think wonderful, I can move on today to start some online training I was promised. *Screeeeeech (That’s the brakes being applied with much force over the next project.)

I start my day today in hopes to accomplish a lot more than what I did yesterday. Yeah, that didn’t really happen. After tracking down addresses of the vendor I needed to ask for a P.O. from, I finally get everything put into the appropriate department. Of course today was just filled full of meetings for everyone else, so after running back and forth between several people for a couple of hours today, I still didn’t get my P.O. to start my stuff. And of course the rest of the week, most of the financial folks are in meetings out of town, so I just can’t win.

This is all especially frustrating, and even more so than normal, because I’m not a paper pusher, I’m a technical person! I just find it completely cumbersome and inefficient how companies waste so much time on a “system” for certain things when all you do is end up spending more money than what the object is you’re buying to begin with, because the employee has just spent X-amount of hours dealing with the damn thing, you could have bought the item. (Phew, that’s a long sentence.) Yeah, I know I’m not stating anything new to IT people, but that doesn’t mean I can’t complain, damnit!
