Windows profile Samba troubles
April 9th, 2007 — maxwellI’ve been having issues lately with Samba and Windows 2000/XP profiles becoming corrupted. I’m pretty certain it’s not a Samba issue, so I started Googling for reasons today. I found a Windows utility which is supposed to help with roaming profile issues. It’s called the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service.
I’ve never heard of it or used it, but it’s supposed to kill any running processes or hooks that are in the user profile at the time of signoff. It’s supposed to be particularly effective when the user signs off and the profile isn’t completely unloaded. So in short, it’s job is to kill anything touching the registry before the profile signs out, and hopefully it gets rid of the Samba profile abnormalities. Roaming profiles are a pain.
